WAPO: Trump Infrastructure plans tanked by Democrats [1]

Another interesting example of the narrative of false equivalence. I noticed this one today. How is it somehow the Democrats fault that Trump never passed an infrastructure bill? I don’t even remember that there was a serious bill to discuss. All I remember is that every week was infrastructure week, which would feature Trump sitting in the cab of an 18-wheeler or some other piece of powerful equipment, grinning like a six-year-old.

Before posting this, I thought that I should at least try to find more information about Trump’s “bill”.

Using the search “what was trump infrastructure bill or plan” the first Google hit I get is this: Trump “$1.5 Trillion” Infrastructure Plan Is a Mirage

The second hit is a document that outlines “goals and principles” of Trump’s legislative agenda on infrastructure. I see plenty of good ideas here that I, as a Democrat, would support. Now, there is no date on the plan, but we might make a guess, based on the portion of the URL to this PDF that ends with “wh_infrastructure_fact-sheet_021218.” Let’s assume that the fact sheet was released on February 12, 2018.

Who was in charge of BOTH the House and the Senate in 2018? If you guess Republicans in both cases, you win a prize! Both houses of Congress and the Presidency were Republican-controlled. The 2018 midterms resulted in Democrats taking control of the House, but again, the midterms were in November, and of course the new House members were not sworn in until 2019.

Here’s a quote from a Bloomberg article:

“I think we’ll look back on these four years as a missed opportunity,” said Adie Tomer, a fellow at the Brookings Institution Metropolitan Policy Program. “This administration has been a major letdown for nearly all state and local officials and advocates.”

Ah yes, negotiations with Democrats broke down, that is the problem.
