WRAL link Pro-Palestinian protesters on Thursday afternoon spray-painted the ROTC Armory building at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill months after previous protests on campus turned violent. Before 2 p.m., WRAL News received photos showing the ROTC Naval Armory building at 221 S. Columbia St. sprayed with words reading "Israel bombs USA pays" and the words "burn" and "riot." Some of the classes were a bit away from the ROTC building, one class disrupted was a Jewish Studies Class. "The student movement is protesting UNC's refusal to divest from the apartheid regime and genocidal campaign being inflicted against the Palestinians by the Zionist regime ... until UNC ends its complicity in genocide, the student movement shall continue to organize and disrupt business as usual." In previous protests at UNC, protesters have voiced the concerns they have for the Palestinian people and the issues with UNC’s endowment investing in companies with Israeli connections. It’s unknown if UNC's $5.2 billion endowment invests in any companies associated with Israel. On Thursday, UNCSJP asked hundreds of students, faculty and staff to walk out of classrooms and officers in solidarity with Palestinian students. Daily Tarheel Link The 'Walk out for the West Bank' began at 12:40 p.m., and protesters began walking in and out of various UNC buildings starting at 12:52 p.m. Demonstrators hung papers outlining their demands throughout buildings, spray painting messages like "Free Gaza," "Fuck UNC" and "Israel is a terror state" on the walls of Carroll Hall and other buildings as they walked. There were several speeches demanding that the University reject Israel and the brutalization of students. Protesters chanted phrases like "disclose, divest, we will not stop, we will not rest," as they walked through Halls including Gardner, Murphey, Carolina, Hanes, Carroll, Chapman, Phillips, Peabody and Sitterson. They also walked outside of the UNC NROTC Naval Armory, vandalizing the outside of the building with spray paint and draping a Palestinian flag from the gun turret. The American flag that waves outside of the building was also taken down by protesters around 1:48 p.m. No reports of anyone being detained.
