GOP Congressman Accuses Senators of Conspiracy to Murder Trump [1]

Another day, another unhinged display of craven fealty to Donald Trump from his cowardly enablers. Yesterday, Republican Brian Mast of Florida claimed on social media that “D.C. Democrats have long wanted to eliminate Trump” and “They wanted the man dead,” both without providing any evidence.

The doublethink from Republicans about whether rhetoric can lead to real-world violence is appalling. Donald Trump made no efforts to stop people at his rallies from demanding the arrest of Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden, dithered for hours on January 6th before telling the rioters to go home, and just this week made comments that led to dozens of bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio. Yet Brian Mast has remained silent about all of these because he knows that Trump is in the wrong and he’d rather find a Democrat to blame.

It’s one of the many reasons why I’m running against him: he has repeatedly demonstrated that his fealty to Trump overrides any integrity or values he has left. Here’s a question for Brian Mast: you threw gasoline on the fire that was the January 6th riot despite dozens of court cases finding that there was no significant fraud in the 2020 election. Based on the beliefs you expressed on social media, are you not then directly responsible for everyone injured or killed on that day? Or do you just so happen to have yet another excuse for why your beliefs just don’t apply to the lying ex-president with controlling influence over your every move?

Don’t expect Mast to answer for any of this. Despite Mast himself challenging to debate me, Mast has so far been running scared. He failed to follow through on the debate he promised during his 2022 campaign, and he’s doing it again. Yesterday’s reprehensible social media post is just the latest in a long line of evasions and excuses so Mast doesn’t have to own up to his bad decisions.
