What immigrants do.... [1]

This should be a short diary but it's important to me.

We ordered a large cabinet that weighed several hundred pounds. It was supposed to be delivered up seven boulevard steps, along a sidewalk and then up three steps and into the house. It was delivered at 8:00 pm last Sunday. It turned out the seller pocketed a couple of hundred dollars when they contracted with a shipper. The shipper pocketed a couple of hundred and subbed it to another shipper and told them it was curbside delivery.

So there we were, standing next to a huge cabinet with absolutely no way of moving it. I'm older and I have asthma. In my younger days maybe. Nobody was close enough to call so we pathetically tried to start moving it.

Suddenly two people showed up that we didn't know. A couple younger than us. Turned out they were newer neighbors from a few houses down the street and recent immigrants. They had seen us and wanted to help. They tried to help us but it was still really tough. He got on his phone and in a couple of minutes their three sons showed up and with all of us we managed to get it into the house.

We thanked them and offered them something for helping but they very politely refused anything. They said they were just being neighbors.

My past experiences with immigrants have also been positive. When something like this happens it just makes me angry at the anti-immigrant lies being passed around by the Republicans.

I know to others it might seem like a small thing but it was huge to us and I wanted to share it.
