The Larger Metaphor the Debate Exposed [1]

There’s a fascinating aspect of the debate that I haven’t seen discussed, wherein the outcome can be seen as a metaphor for a much larger truth about how conservatives have been misled.

For weeks, Trump and his campaign have framed Kamala as unintelligent, a lightweight, a DEI hire. Their supporters ate it up. Then reality dawned within moments of the debate starting: Oh, she’s actually smart, she’s prepared, and she’s wiping the floor with Trump.

We’ve heard the Harris campaign framing the debate as the prosecutor takes on the felon, which points at a larger truth:

For years, Trump and his supporters have framed his trials and convictions as illegitimate, unconstitutional, a weaponization of justice.

Just like the debate, his supporters have eaten it up. Just like the debate, they’ve been ideologically blinded to reality. And just like the debate, the clock is ticking down when the reality will dawn on them like tripping unexpectedly into a pool of icy water.

This could be used as a campaign message.

If you believe what Trump told you about Kamala: that she’s stupid, she’s a lightweight, a DEI hire, you learned the truth during the debate. Turns out she’s smart, informed and well prepared. You were lied to.

Do you still believe what Trump tells you about his legal cases? That he’s being persecuted, that it’s all made up and unfair? Do you think maybe they’re using the same strategy to mislead you?

Time will tell.
