Imagine Him with the Nuclear Codes

Now just imagine the angry man you saw last night in his dotage four years from now, having further deteriorated with age. Trump said last night that his claim that people in Springfield, OH were eating dogs and cats was that he saw something on television. Now imagine him at a four-years-more-advanced age (82 1/2) thinking he saw something on TV (or on his website) that a foreign power did

something bad to America. Do you trust him not to push the nuclear button? And destroy the world and all our children and grandchildren and the planet? Do you trust him not to do that?

Was He Projecting?

Mr. Trump never saw a piece of meat he didn’t like. He makes repeated and apparently favorable references to Hannibal Lecter, a fictional cannibal in a famous movie. Even Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post reports him ordering $200 worth of cheeseburgers at a time for a flight. I am not at all referring to

Trump’s attitude toward, or treatment of, women, although the former FBI Director who arguably enabled Trump’s 2016 election, James Comey, said Trump “treats women like they’re pieces of meat.” Trump’s penchant for projecting is well known, and psychologists have noted this. This made me wonder, snarkily, does Trump have a secret desire to eat dogs and cats himself, does he long to become the Hannibal Lecter of household quadrupeds?

Now ask the question again. Him with the nuclear codes?

Your faithful diarist is almost 87 and knows a thing or two about cognitive deterioration. I think I have been blessed to have avoided most of its ravages so far, but I have a lot of contemporaries and know it when I see it. And in my lay opinion, I have never seen a more dangerous undiagnosed case than that of the former president.

Old people repeat themselves: Now ask the question again. Him with the nuclear codes? Four years from now?
