If the Legacy Media Wants to Sanewash Trump, It Has To Become A Campaign Issue [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-09-09 I really did not want to be writing this journal. I have issues with lots of the legacy media, but I really don’t like asking others to go after them. But at this point, its become clear that this is an issue we have to tackle. Even if this doesn’t turn out to have much impact this race, this kind of behavior is antithetical to the very concept of a free press. We’ve all seen the lengths the press will go to to spin Trump’s insane ramblings into vague policy points. I’m sure some of them view this as part of the unenviable task of providing analysis of issues to the American public. Its just become part and parcel of the job to take messages aimed at a party’s base and political junkies, and translate it into something that those outside of politics can follow. However, this has crossed a line. When the messaging is delivered so incoherently that you cannot provide a complete sentence stated by the candidate that summarizes the idea, THAT IS THE STORY. There need to be ads targeting the fact the media isn’t fully reporting what is occurring on the ground. I’m picturing some nice subversive ads talking about ‘The MSM says this about Trump, but lets let him tell you in his own words’ followed by any of the numerous 10-15 second clips that show how the man cannot complete a sentence without taking a scenic detour through an unrelated topic. ‘The Trump the NYT doesn’t want you to see!’ followed by any of the various clip we’ve all shared amongst ourselves would be a potentially powerful advertisement that could reach more conservative voters who can be coaxed back onto the rational side of the fence. Most importantly, it starts the ball rolling on an issue we’re going to have to address one way or the other: the media’s bad habits or even malicious actions that have allowed us to get to this situation. We’re going to have a long road ahead of us figuring out how much of it is unintentional, how much of it is surrender in the face of hostile opposition, and even how much of it is driven by goals other than informing the public about current events. But its starting to feel like we’re going to have to have to initiate this conversation now, because no longer an issue that can’t wait till after the election, it’s an issue that is going to define this election.
