A Simple Argument for Those Who Are (unbelievably) Still on the Fence [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-09-08 First of all, I have to ask how anyone could possibly be hemming and hawing about this election. It’s not like having to choose between a hot lava pit and a tank full of hungry sharks. More like choosing between the hot lava and your favorite comfy robe on a chilly Sunday morning. Anyway, I love this from a letter to the editor in the Detroit Free Press. It begins: “A vote is not a bouquet of flowers pledging your undying love and devotion.” The writer is very brief in expressing that while Trump is “certain to make everything I care about much harder to achieve,” Harris is not perfect but is a person “we can engage with as we move toward a world that values people rather than profits” and we can support her and challenge her. The writer is concise with no hyperbole or disrespect. A simple, understated argument like this could be very effective, I think, without provoking defensiveness and nastiness. I think I’ll try it on someone I know; I have been trying to come up with something that won’t end in a fight.
