Kitchen Table Kibitzing: 9/7/24 ~ Harris campaign releases three ads on abortion prior to debate [1]

The Harris campaign has released three good ads prior to Tuesday’s debate, each highlighting Donald Trump’s bragging about overturning Roe and his musings about “punishing” women for terminating their pregnancies.

The first one is narrated by Laurel Marcinkus, a resident of Wisconsin, who was denied treatment for a blood clot immediately after her labor was induced because doctors were afraid of being prosecuted. She almost died as a result.

The second features an Alabama family who were denied IVF treatment because the state’s Supreme Court had declared frozen embryos to be “little people,” resulting in the shutdown of clinics that stored the embryos out of fear of liability.

And the third emphasizes Trump’s past bragging about overturning Roe, statements indicating he believes women who terminate pregnancies should be punished, and Trump’s plans to further restrict reproductive rights under his Project 2025 manifesto.

We can anticipate many more ads like this over the next 60 days, as they are fairly unanswerable by the Trump campaign. The ads are part of a $370 million digital and TV ad blitz that the Harris/Walz campaign is implementing between Labor Day and November 5th.

Meanwhile, a judge who is Rush Limbaugh’s cousin just invalidated Missouri’s ballot initiative attempting to preserve access to reproductive rights, siding with lawyers who argued (among other things) that the initiative could hamper laws that prohibit “human cloning.”

Missouri has a near-total ban on abortion, imposed immediately after the Trump Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade.
