Don't Let Republicans off the Hook for Global Chaos [1]

It is a common yet misguided claim among Republicans that “there were no wars when Trump was in office.” The people of Ethiopia, Crimea, Syria, Somalia, Niger, Myanmar, Iraq, and Afghanistan would disagree. Even discounting the obvious falsehood in this claim, just because Donald Trump did not declare war does not mean that he and his Republican enablers like Brian Mast do not deserve blame for the current chaos in Europe and the Middle East.

Never forget that the Trump administration was responsible for negotiating the agreement that led to the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, including their laughable decision to exclude Ashraf Ghani and the legitimate Afghan government from the talks. Never forget that Trump freezing aid to Ukraine that had already been approved by Congress, all for a cheap campaign stunt, was a show of American weakness that played into Putin’s desire for conquest. Never forget that his inner circle is more concerned with developing waterfront properties in Gaza rather than protecting civilians, eliminating terrorists, or advancing peace between Israel, Palestine, and their neighbors. Never forget Trump’s threats to abandon democratic Taiwan to predatory China for petty economic reasons, showing how hollow his policy of containing China was. Never forget Trump’s "love letters" to Kim Jong Un, his blind trust in Xi Jinping's China even as COVID-19 was erupting, and his reprehensible fawning over Vladimir Putin even as the Kremlin attacked America and its allies.

Where were the Republicans who had been so concerned with defeating the “Axis of Evil” and being true leaders of the Free World like Reagan and the Bushes? They’re extinct, replaced by cronies like Mast willing to sabotage America’s support of Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and its own industrial might just to spurn President Biden. They spurned global freedom instead.
