Photo Diary: a Walk on a Florida Beach [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-29 I’m not really a “swim in the ocean” kind of guy. I mostly go to the beach to look for critters and birdies, and to people-watch the tourists. But here are some photos from a walk at Indian Rocks Beach in Pinellas County, Florida. Indian Rocks Beach Looking out over the Gulf of Mexico The beaches erode quickly here. Every spring, the county imports tons of sand from elsewhere in Florida to replenish the beach and keep the tourists happy. Metal detectorist. I suppose he finds a lot of pocket change and car keys. This little girl was having a grand ole time playing in the sand The reefs here are about a mile offshore, so all the shells get busted up rapidly from the wave action Red seaweed that washed up from the reef Laughing Gull takes a rest. Stealing food from the tourists all day is tiring work. Willet. They are pretty common here.
