PA-SEN: GOP candidate McCormick mistakes Philadelphia, Mississippi for Philadelphia PA [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-29 In his thus far quixotic quest to unseat highly respected PA. Sen. Bob Casey this November, Republican (“Connecticut Dave”) McCormick just committed a grievous geographical faux pas. As reported by Philly Voice: U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick was mocked by his political opponents Wednesday after his campaign confused Philadelphia, Mississippi for the Pennsylvania city in a social media post. On X, formerly Twitter, the Republican's campaign shared a report from a Mississippi news station that referenced a shooting in Philadelphia that allegedly was carried out by a gang member from El Salvador. Every morning, Republicans nationwide start their day by scouring the police blotters and local media outlets for any instance of an undocumented person committing a crime, so they can highlight it in an attack ad against their Democratic opponents. To be clear, they don’t seem to care much about the 99% of crimes, violent and otherwise, that are committed by true-blue, red-blooded Americans. It’s only the disproportionately small number of crimes credibly attributable to undocumented immigrants that they seem to be concerned about. So when they find one they do a little victory dance, embed it in a tweet and hit the “send” button. That’s clearly what happened in this case, when McCormick, or more likely one of his overeager staffers, retweeted a post by some Twitter/X clown calling itself “End Wokeness.” Just as he’s tried to do with his heinous anti-choice record and statements, McCormick tried to hide his mistake by deleting the post. But alas, not before an intrepid staffer of the Casey campaign took a screenshot. x Dave, this story is from Philadelphia, Mississippi — not Philadelphia, PA. #PASen pic.twitter.com/woRGWUH2bs — Maddy McDaniel (@maddymcdaniel14) August 28, 2024 As Chris Compendio reports for the Philly Voice, the Casey campaign also helpfully offered McCormick a quick tutorial in Pennsylvania geography. x We're big fans of maps on Team Casey - here are a few for @DaveMcCormickPA: pic.twitter.com/5iaeKXxfeb — Team Casey (@BobCaseyHQ) August 28, 2024 And PA. Sen. John Fetterman — no stranger to Twitter — helped to twist the knife on his Senate colleague’s behalf. x Things like this tend to happen for people who live in Connecticut but run for the Senate in Pennsylvania. https://t.co/ZHSwSQQNke — John Fetterman (@JohnFetterman) August 28, 2024 The Casey campaign was also quick to point out that Philadelphia, PA police cars look substantially different than those in the tiny Mississippi town, which McCormick would know if he actually spent any time in Pennsylvania. As pointed out by MSNBC’s Ja’Han Jones, however, this particular goof is the least of McCormick’s problems: But unfortunately for him, the flub managed to highlight his weak point. Like other Republican Senate candidates this year, he’s been called out for being uber-wealthy and spending ample time living outside the state where he’s running for office. McCormick rents and frequently visits a multimillion-dollar mansion in Connecticut, where he also ran a hedge fund. So the cop confusion — in addition to exposing his campaign's bigoted arguments — isn’t helping him beat the carpetbagger allegations. As pointed out by Philadelphia Magazine, this is but one of several cringeworthy gaffes McCormick has recently made as he campaigns in what, to him, is clearly the exotic, foreign land of Pennsylvania. Another Dave McCormick fact error regarding a Pennsylvania institution: In a statement about Democratic economics yesterday, his campaign complained that tickets to Hershey Park cost $60. They do not. They cost $49.95. McCormick also has issues pronouncing Yuengling. And he thinks that Wawa sells Big Gulps. McCormick shouldn’t let this little embarrassment bother him too much, though. After all, he can always file for a Senate run in Mississippi. It’s just a little further south from Connecticut.
