The Ronnie Horror Picture Show: Screening for GOP Tyranny [1]

Yegads, what timing. While Donald ‘J6’ Trump smears Vice President Harris as “communist,” a film based on career theocrat Paul Kengor’s 2006 tome The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism” slouches toward the silver screen (slated for Friday release).

So. Look out below. Here comes what looks to be a thinly disguised 135-minute Trump campaign ad. Such parallels! (The Gipper was expressive, bigoted, and Republican. Like Trump, though irreligious, he embraced being robed in religiosity. He was keenly endorsed by the fake Christian domestic terror network we call the KKK. He LOVED fossil fuels. He LOATHED clean energy. So, what’s not to adore- not to say hero worship?)

Well, now. For years, a neo-Soviet Russkie has been blitzing Ukraine. Annihilating freedom. And rattling nukes at NATO (that is to say, friends, at us). All with Trump’s implicit (if not explicit) blessing. Boding ill (and then some), in a 2013 letter Trump pined to become Vladimir Putin’s “best friend.” Five years later, in Helsinki, our Orange Ogre effectively put Putin’s fraught, forked-tongued, Russia First cant WAY above our country’s vital, hard-won intel.

Better late than never, let it be stressed. Not for a nanosecond could ANY Dem EVER have gotten away with such deference to an adversary. (Period.)

Also in 2018, the later Trump-pardoned alleged felon (eventually jailed on other charges) Steve Bannon gloated that “Democrats don’t matter” when tuskers “flood the zone with s***.” In all, the long-term story looks to be rising seas of toxic, despotic, theocratic, porcine, Putinesque manure swamping (and choking) the land which the Ronnie-then-Donnie crowd claim to cleanse.

And the plot thickens. A 2010 Kengor opus is called Dupes: How America’s Adversaries Have Manipulated Progressives for a Century. Well, now. Just over a half-century ago, the POTUS whom the Soviets manipulated into selling them US grain for HALF of what we the people were paying for it was Reagan’s and Trump’s fellow REPUBLICAN, Richard “Not A Crook” Nixon. (Call that scandal, if you like, ‘Wheatergate.’ Just don’t EVER call GOP propaganda credible. Reliable. Constructive. Patriotic. Toothsome. Or remotely close to decent.)

Be it resolved. One worshipful, fact-averse $25 million film can Trump an awful lot of potentially fine, truth-marshaling debating. Mass mailings. TV ads. What have you. So, questions. At bottom, can OUR SOLE NON-DESPOTIC MAJOR PARTY “matter” enough to stop the J6 juggernaut, aka the battering ram of domestic tyranny? With every atom of our hearts/minds/souls can we give ourselves a fighting chance to prevail (and so survive)?
