[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-28 In 2016, then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told America that Donald Trump was wholly unfit and would plunge America into a chaotic mess. She was right then and is right now. The visceral reaction of Republicans was understandable because they were in fear of her winning and needed to destroy her. There was also residual hatred of her husband, former President Bill Clinton, who kept GOP rage cannons loaded as well. What I never understood was the willingness of liberal Democrats to participate in the bombardment by not keeping their powder dry. Seeing her on stage on the opening night of the recent Democratic National Convention was both nostalgic and triggering. Less than two weeks later, America was again reminded of former Secretary Clinton’s insight. Back in 2019, she said, “I'm not making any predictions, but I think they've got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are (sic) grooming her to be the third-party candidate. She's the favorite of the Russians,” an inference to Tulsi Gabbard. Ms. Gabbard has now joined the Trump campaign. She has a history of supporting the murderous autocratic regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Gabbard, who famously called Ms. Clinton a warmonger, met with al-Assad on a secret trip to Syria in 2017, according to Axios. Tulsi Gabbard, the former Congressperson from Hawaii, has spent the past six years on a mission to disparage and ridicule the party she once claimed to be her own. She is now a registered Independent (wink, wink) and is currently helping Donald Trump prep for his debate with Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in their presidential debate set for September 10. Gabbard has burnished her reputation among the GOP because she allegedly “eviscerated” VP Kamala Harris in the 2019 debates, which led to Joe Biden’s win in 2020. Of course, this is only true if you ignore her being tabbed as the Vice President of the United States and on the doorstep of the presidency. Things that have disappeared down the Trump memory hole Hillary Clinton may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but she is not a drink soured by narcissistic ambition. Is there anyone who believes that she would have kept away from the public the fact that Covid-19 was an airborne virus for political advantage? Or would have inquired about shooting George Floyd protesters in the legs or clearing a street of protesters with gas to pose with a Bible in front of a church? Mark Esper, Trump’s former Defense Secretary, wrote, “We reached that point in the conversation where he looked frankly at [Joint Chiefs of Staff] Gen. [Mark] Milley and said, 'Can't you just shoot them, just shoot them in the legs or something?' ... It was a suggestion and a formal question. And we were just all taken aback at that moment as this issue just hung very heavily in the air.” Republicans love to tout the Trump administration's pre-COVID-19 economy, never acknowledging the burgeoning economy left to him by Barack Obama. Once a crisis occurred, the depths of Donald Trump's ineptness surfaced. He threatened to extort blue states over protective infectious disease gear, consumers hoarded toilet paper, and store shelves were empty. Ms. Clinton warned Donald Trump would try to “sneak or steal his way back” into the White House in 2020. In her recent Democratic Convention speech, she said, “Tonight, I am thinking of the girls and boys who see themselves in America’s future because of Kamala Harris — a Black woman, the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants, and our nominee for vice president of the United States,” Clinton said. “This is our country’s story: breaking down barriers and expanding the circle of possibility.” One may not like Hillary Clinton, but she has been right too often to dismiss.
