Voting is important [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-26 Now that the political conventions are over, it’s time to get serious about how to vote. I hope you will read on so I can help you understand why you should vote for your own interests. I am retired from teaching Economics for Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. I previously worked at all of the campuses, including Shawano, Oconto Falls, and even temporary satellites in Lakewood and Suring. The basis of economics is what Adam Smith called “enlightened self-interest.” He meant that you can and should consider your own needs when you choose how to use your resources. Today I want to encourage you to be selfish. Vote to keep your Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and lower costs for prescription drugs. Vote to keep infrastructure projects and internet development coming from the federal government. Vote to help the farmers in your neighborhood. Vote to keep your taxes fair. Vote to keep our free public education and free public libraries strong. Donald Trump doesn’t want any of that for you. But I do - for all of us. The first step is to make sure you’re registered to vote. In Wisconsin, you can do that at myvote.wi.gov. You can find your ballot there too. See you at the polls in November!
