Short Colorado State Open Thread, 8/26/2024 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-26 Sorry for the short and sweet Open Thread tonight. I was down in the valley (Denver) today taking a friend to the airport and when I came home I finally fell asleep (instead of in the car). I’m going to post a couple of things to discuss and then turn it over to you. From our state’s dysfunctional Republican party (courtesy of ColoradoPolitics.com) A group of Colorado Republicans voted Saturday to remove Dave Williams as chairman of the state party at a meeting denounced by Williams and his allies as "fraudulent" and "illegal." Republicans cheered when results were announced at a church in Brighton, where Williams' opponents gathered in defiance of state GOP warnings that the proceedings lacked authority and would be ignored. … Republicans on both sides said Saturday that they expect the dispute won't be resolved quickly, with the national party potentially called upon to sort things out. I guess it’s probably too late to hope that this might derail the campaigns of the Republican candidates (especially Lauren Boebert), but a guy can hope. Dave Williams, if you recall, is the one who used state Republican funds to campaign for his own race for Congress and he’s responsible for the hateful anti-LGBTQ emails going out to Republicans across the state. From our state’s dysfunctional (so far) legislature that can’t seem to agree on property taxes (also courtesy of ColoradoPolitics.com) The Colorado legislature reconvened for its second special session of the year on Monday to once again address property taxes. This session centers on a deal struck between legislative leaders, the governor, and the groups behind a pair of ballot measures, who have said they will withdraw their initiatives if the deal becomes law. While several other property tax-related proposals were introduced during the first day of the special session, many were quickly shut down in their initial committee hearings. Here's a brief overview of the bills and resolutions coming out of the special session's first day. I haven’t had time to read up on where things stand now, but this session will be going beyond the minimum of three days for this special session. I look forward to any comments down below from people who know this property tax issue and can add good input. Until I catch up on sleep, the floor is yours...
