[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-26 In a somewhat surprising move Donald Trump has flopped and twisted his way into a concrete debate encounter with Vice President Harris September 10th. Trump simply cannot pivot to race against Vice President Harris, unable to come up with even a nickname for her, let alone face an American political intellect and persona that will easily wipe the floor with him. Yet he signed up the day #trumpisacoward became a leading topic on TruthSocial, Trump is an utterly shameless criminal and political failure who obviously hates the idea of being exposed to Vice President Harris in a debate format, but being publicly called out for reacting fearfully to a black woman on his own social network of course finally motivated him. Another reason Trump signed up is that no matter how foul or outrageous he behaves the American journalism corps will instantly jump to normalize him. Convicted felon, adjudicated for sexual assault, liable for hundreds of millions from civil judgments, nonstop liar–-never mind! It’s precisely what happened last time, Trump spouted lies like a geyser and had the chutzpah to describe the Biden Presidency as criminal in performance, it’s all good for the New York Times. Trump also rambled into multiple fantasies and contradictions that for anyone else meant dear Uncle Donnie needs medications and safety confinement, but the debate was all about Biden for the Washington Post. CNN was ripped to unholy shreds for setting up a format for Trump to lie, project and fantasize constantly but that’s a little unfair, of course it wouldn’t have mattered what setup Trump encountered he still would have ruthlessly wandered into lies and abuse, it’s who he is. ABC News has the unthankful task of setting up some kind of debate format for the truth to somehow glimmer through September 10th, while Vice President Harris has the seemingly impossible task of dealing with Trump while simultaneously projecting her own message. That whiner of the universe Trump and his constant cloak of unfairness, Jesus, try debating a constant liar, childishly baited with a nickname, goaded with cultural hate and resentment, then having the journalism corps blithely normalize it, never mind, my god, what a setup of ultimate unfairness that is. One of the reasons the Democratic base is ecstatic with Vice President Harris is that she’s proved all her life she’s tough and wicked smart enough to thrive in an unfair environment with fat old failed criminal white guys, perhaps a line like “This criminal just lied 10 times but this lie about everyone wanting Roe eliminated is what I’m going to focus on…” Whatever the campaign and Vice President Harris ultimately decide on to counter (the President Biden debate strategy was a terrible flop) will be smart and effective as it can be. All of this is a farce, in a way, a debate is between two actors who of course act in good faith that this is an exchange of real ideals and policy, one actor here flouts all rules and decency in whiny resentment, nothing can truly counter or fix that. Whatever happens there will be a political play, such as it is, and the Harris campaign will continue its amazing smashing success, no doubt of that, but the rest of us will continue our terribly wearisome Trump task of endurance. Hold on through all the lies and hate, keep on through the pain and shame inflicted on our little people, cling to faith as critical institutions are warped and perverted, just endure, someday it will have to be over. I will never, ever forget how Vice President Harris has so brilliantly, positively stepped up to give me something to lookward to, what a profound gift of mental health it has been to have her political presence in my life. She hasn’t spent a day in office and she’s already my total hero, I take my mental health breaks I can get them, oy, damn straight. All this nightmare is soon to be over, in fact, not just someday, and if things seem hopeless and wrecked beyond repair know that will all the grace of the universe around 70 official days are left with the orange monster, no matter how he befouls the upcoming debate and campaign or how badly he loses we are almost done with him. As was said at the convention the joy of Vice President Harris and the morning will then be with us, praise to the mountains, the endurance will have worked.
