[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-15 On the 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle last night, Washington Post National Reporter Isaac Arnsdorf said something that made my jaw drop. It was prompted from a quote Stephanie read by Jonathan Chait in New York Magazine: “Media has given up on holding him (Trump) to anything resembling a customary standard of behavior for a presidential candidate.” She teed the question up first for journalist/author Brian Stetler who said: “The bar for Trump is set below the floor. Media outlets will downplay the crazy. Journalists should be working only for the public.” Then she posed the question to Arnsdorf, who seemed to take umbrage at that suggestion, making it clear that he is “speaking for myself and my colleagues at the Post”, that “there is something implicit there that if we were to do something to hold him accountable that it would change his behavior. There’s no amount of fact checking or accountability of reporting that is going to change his approach to things, it’s a little bit of blaming us for what he does.” Wow. Someone actually told the truth. There it is, the answer we’ve been missing. Chait was a hundred percent correct. Now we know why reporters are giving Trump a pass. Since they can’t stop him from lying and carrying on like a belligerent ignorant thug, these pernicious cowards are simply saying to the corruption of government and our culture in general by this foul orange criminal “don’t blame us, it’s not our problem”, and abdicating any responsibility to do what their actual job is: to report the facts. I hope they all get fired.
