[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-15 Its back to school time — which I love because my kids go back to school. BUT — everyone else’s kids also show up there too. This means that all of those amazing vacations I saw everyone having exposed them to a whole bunch of new viruses which they will now bring back to school and share along with stories of visiting Spain and Mexico and Omaha. COVID is also making a HUGE impact right now. Numbers are through the roof almost everywhere. We had it a few weeks ago. Caught it when I had to take someone to the ER. Despite only having contact with the Dr., 2 nurses, and the Admin — we still got it (all but my one son, who then hid in their room, only coming out with a mask and scowling at us because we were threatening him going to band camp with this thing). My GP caught it too — and she was masking all the time with patients and still got it somewhere. My pilaties instructor also just let me know they caught it, which is just fabulous because I saw them over the weekend and who knows if I will now get it again. We live in a tourist area, so many people travel here and also probably have it and are passing it around local businesses and restaurants — I know two family restaurant owners who had to close for a week because they have it. So there is decent odd your own amazing little Typhoid Mary will be coming home with it. Not to mention all of the other crud that are being passed around as kids hug and share things and kindergartens put things in their mouths. So how are you preparing for the back to school cruds? I am wiping everything off in the house each night as everyone goes to bed, increasing masking outside of the house (and maybe inside for the next week or two now that I think of it), I’m increasing the temp on laundry and changing the towels daily to reduce the sharing of germs. I’ll be monitoring for coughs and snot. This round of COVID is mostly presenting early as a bad cold with lots of snot and then for some starting to give fever, chills etc. Which means we are all playing allergies, cold, COVID again — so much fun. I was about to get our next round of COVID vaccines the Friday of the week we got COVID, so I will push those off till October so we have them for the Thanksgiving and Winter Break rounds of crud. Please stay home if you can if you are stick. Keep the kids home if they are sick. We are all in this together.
