An Open Letter to MAGA

So you sold out America to try to overrule Roe v Wade.

You gave up world leadership and a Constitutional democracy for someone who had never been elected to anything nor served in the military but who claimed “only I can do it.”

You embraced a criminal, a third-rate mafioso, because you found Hillary Clinton “unlikeable”.

You decided that Russian interference in the 2016 election was acceptable.

You were willing to withhold Congressionally approved aid to Ukraine to resist Russia for “a favor” that would (maybe) help to keep that mafioso in office for another term. Yes, you were willing to have the United States welch on a commitment to an ally. Because.

You gave up democracy for white supremacy.

You preferred relegation to Banana Republic status to the nation of laws that had been the world’s foremost democracy.

You sold out common sense and safety for guns for everyone.

You gave away diplomacy and alliances for bluster.

You traded present and future contributions from immigrants to exclude families seeking asylum.

You subsidized golf outings for a supposedly wealthy President AT THE CLUB HE OWNED, but approved taking away food and medicine from people who needed those things but couldn’t afford them.

You continued giving welfare to the Koch Brothers and ExxonMobil, plus the farmers who had their markets pulled out from under them by an out of control president while expressing your supposed hatred for socialism.

You want the government to stay out of your Medicare.

You continue to whine with the choir about “socialism” while you collect Social Security, drive on public roads and bridges, go to the public library (well, maybe not), rely on police and fire departments and the military, assume that the judiciary will always be there to settle disputes and uphold law and order, expect help from FEMA when there is a disaster, and take advantage of public education that includes the best research facilities in the world that have made your world a modern place.

You chose to subsidize Donald Trump and the Trump organization WHO HAVE PAID NO TAXES SINCE AT LEAST 1985, but let children starve and have the infrastructure continue to rot.

You took away healthcare from millions that had never had it before because you wanted to save insurance companies that give less than a shit about you or anyone other than their shareholders.

You put kids in cages to “teach their parents a lesson”.

You gave up on the strongest economy in the world to be able to brag about being tough and “America First”.

You let American citizens in Puerto Rico die.

You sold out America to be afraid:

Of loud mouths

Of barefoot 5-year olds

Of having less weaponry in your house than soldiers have in war zones

Of competing with black and brown people

Of doing the work to KEEP America Great

Of science

Of truth.

Happy?

Proud?
