I Am Sorry, You Just Have To Laugh at Donnie [1]

I understand that Donald Trump is a serious candidate for president. I know that he is an existential threat to Democracy. Yet, he's not a serious person. Just look back over the last decade. This guy walks up to the podium and has no script. He is winging it like he is an improv comedian. He probes the audience to find their reaction to whatever vitriol he spews. Thankfully, I believe his schtick is losing momentum.

When Trump was president, the new and unheard-of virus COVID-19 ravaged America. Donald Trump decided to have daily briefings. He did not have daily briefings to inform the United States; instead, he decided to have daily briefings because he thought it was "popular” and he was a “hit!” In one of his briefings, he famously told Americans that we should ingest bleach and/or insert a powerful light into our hindquarters to combat Covid-19. Come on. This is a man who is asked to be ridiculed. We should do him the favor.



For more than two years, Donald Trump has told us that Joe Biden is too old. President Biden turns in a terrible performance at the debate. Understanding his precarious position in his reelection campaign, Joe Biden bows out of the race. Now, Donald Trump doesn't know what to do. One would figure that Donald Trump had a new line of attacks ready for Kamala Harris. He did not. One would figure that Donald Trump would double down on the policies he would like to promote, but his campaign is too superficial to focus on policy. As a matter fact, Donald Trump is never focused on policy. The only policy that Donald Trump will ever support is tax cuts for the rich. That's it.



To use a Mohammed Ali analogy, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden used a rope-a-dope technique against Donald Trump. Mohammed Ali used this tactic famously against George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle in 1974. George Foreman was handily beating Mohammed Ali when Mohammed Ali decided to employ the rope-a-dope technique. He allowed George Foreman to hit him as hard and often as he wanted. Mohammed Ali stayed covered up. He did this through the fourth round. He did it through the fifth round. He started that in the sixth round when Mohammed Ali noticed George Foreman was exhausted. Mohammed Ali used a series of counterpunches, and George Foreman was on the mat. Joe Biden took all of the blows from Donald Trump. He then tagged the lighter, faster Kamala Harris. Now, Donald Trump is exhausted. To continue the analogy, he is punchdrunk. He is stumbling around the ring and looking for Joe Biden, but Biden is no longer there.

A recent article in the New Yorker underscores Donald Trump's disorientation. He has done nothing for the last three weeks. Donald Trump held a press conference at Mar-a-Lago. I understand that Donald Trump does not make any sense at baseline, but this was even more confusing and disoriented than usual. He called the fact that Joe Biden bowed out of the race possibly "unconstitutional.” He then lamented that Joe Biden had the “right to run, and they took it away.” Again, it's more nonsense. You can either take this seriously or laugh at it.

I laugh while focusing on electing Democrats up and down the ballot. Laugh with me and at Donald Trump.
