"Stolen Valor"? What about Ronny Jackson, Folks? [1]

First off, great piece from Kos today. And much thanks to you and your son for serving.

I want to add something to the story, regarding the American Fascist Right’s blatant double standard about such things — uh, indeed, about all things.

Here goes —

Having jumped into some rabbit holes on social media, I went at it with a former military guy who is all-in on the Walz attacks. I want to focus on one dimension of it here:

1) As we all know, Walz attained the Command Sergeant Major rank during his time in the service. And then because of various rules, he actually RETIRED at a lower rank. But back during his congressional run, it appears that at times he called himself a “retired sergeant major.” From everything I can tell, he saw the discrepancy and corrected it going forward — through his run for governor and beyond.

But for those in the right wing rabbit hole, that he publicly misspoke is tantamount to “stolen valor” — trafficking under a false rank or whatever. It means he’s unqualified or worse.

(For me, since Walz corrected it and would undoubtedly own up to the mistake, it pretty much amounts to nothing).

2) In the meantime, let’s look at Ronny Jackson, a Trump favorite and Congressional Representative in TX. As many know, he was actually DEMOTED (disciplined) to a lower rank related to his work as a physician, but he doubled down — I think still — on calling himself a “Retired Rear Admiral.” No corrections, no humility… Not owning it at all. And other Republicans also refer to him as the incorrect rank.

So in the end, we have yet more Orwellian projection from Republicans — in the form of a double standard reflecting typical bad faith.

I don’t think the Walz “story” is anything, but in my view, we should all be armed with information about Ronny Jackson, in order to call out the bullshit and opportunistic hypocrisy.
