Trump Press Conference: Nothingburger, Hold the Burger [1]

Honestly, Trump’s press conference was so bog-standard, it wouldn’t even be worth a diary, if he didn’t have a solid (but dwindling) chance to become president again. It consisted of Trump giving opening remarks lies and attacks, followed by the MSM asking questions that did nothing besides set up Trump for more lies and attacks, like George Burns teeing up straight lines for Gracie Allen. (Confession: I couldn’t watch the whole thing; turned it off after about 40 minutes.)

The only real “news” (if one can call it that) to come out of this presser is that Trump claims to have agreed to three debates, although he admitted that these are only agreements between his campaign and the networks in question—and given Trump’s propensity for lying his @$$ off, we’ll have to wait for confirmation to see if it’s true. (Tbf, Trump did include the Sept 4 ABC debate, which he had previously agreed to, but has lately been providing excuses to duck out of. To quote every mother ever, “We’ll see.”)

Other than that, it was nothing more than a regurgitation of Trump’ greatest hits lies, attacking his perceived enemies, trashing the economy, predicting American carnage if he doesn’t win, hoping for a “fair” election, downplaying abortion as an election issue, repeating himself on multiple occasions, blah blah blah blah blah….

The only notable line to me was his claim that the MAGA base represents 75% of the country—a claim so ludicrous it can be seen from space.

I expect that social media will be all over Trump’s presser with mockery and rebuttal of fact (Trump actually said “I didn’t lead the ‘Lock her up’ chants”), and I, for one, look forward to it.

The Talking Heads said it best when it comes to summarizing Trump’s presser: “Same as it ever was”
