Russian stuff blowing up: Ukraine pushes deeper into Russia's Kursk region [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-07 Ukraine continues to advance rapidly in the Kursk area of Russia and, according to Russian bloggers, has taken control of 11 villages. Ukraine’s 22nd Brigade and the Georgian Legion are in the vanguard of this operation. There are reports that the Russians have abandoned the town of Sudzha and started bombing it with glide bombs, which is a sign that Ukraine is there. Sudzha is about 100 km southwest of the city of Kursk and it’s about 75 km from the town of Kurchatov, which is the site of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. The question, of course, is what is Ukraine’s goal with this operation? Did they see a weakness and decided to exploit it? Is this just a joy ride of sorts where they intend to blow up as much Russian stuff as possible and then leave? Is the intent to force Russia to redeploy troops from other areas? Some question the wisdom of this operation when Russian troops are advancing in the Toretsk area, saying Ukraine needs to shore up those defenses. But that was Ukraine’s strategy at Bakhmut and Avdiivka, both of which eventually fell. Whatever this operation is, it already has its own Wikipedia entry. x The Russians report the capture of 11 villages and the advance of the liberation army up to 15 kilometers in the Kursk Special Operation Zone. He claims this is a real offensive. Khokhly [Ukrainians] have broken through the Russian State border and are entering the area near the settlements of Daryino, Gogolevka, Sverdlikovo and Goncharovka. The enemy has maneuvered about 10 km deep into the border, and now they are not stopping pulling in reserves, occupying the above-mentioned settlements. Two of our helicopters were shot down yesterday, air defense has been pulled to a f*cking heap. This is not a media move by morons from the Russian Volunteer Corps, this is a real offensive and a breakthrough of the state border of the Russian Federation, which by the way is "sacred and inviolable". Or not anymore?
