The Daily Bucket - fresh fledglings [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-06 Mid-late summer 2024 Pacific Northwest High summer is fledgling season. Now is the time to get things sorted out, especially for those birds who will be on their way to winter quarters soon, like the grosbeaks, swallows, siskins, hummers. There are signs of the season shifting already. With our recent breezy weather, alder leaves are starting to fall. These are a few of the fledglings I’ve been seeing in my yard and neighborhood lately. Spotted towhee and begging baby Cowbird fledgling It’s a junco who is raising it The flock of Pine siskins includes quite a few fledglings. The one on the left is shouting at what looks like an adult on the right. . Very fresh House finch fledgling, with “horns” One of several young robins hopping around on the road A very recent batch of Rough winged swallow fledglings on the beach. They were pretty good at flying but pretty clueless about hunting. Insistently calling, for several days straight. . Hard for me to tell young from female Black headed grosbeaks but this was one of a few whose behavior suggested fledgling: uncertain, clumsy. This one had just bathed. 🪶 Partly cloudy and foggy in the PNW islands. Breezy. Temps in low 60s. What’s up in nature in your neighborhood?
