[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-08-06 I am so excited about the Walz choice. It sets up critical opportunities in my part of Wisconsin that have national implications. First, note that Harris will campaign tomorrow in Eau Claire WI. So will JD Vance! This is no coincidence. It tells you how critical western Wisconsin is. Background for those outside the region: Over the last several years and elections cycles, Eau Claire and the Chippewa Valley have emerged as a growing Democratic stronghold for Wisconsin, joining Milwaukee and Madison. It helped us to win statewide with Governor Evers, Sen. Tammy Baldwin, and Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz. Tammy is up for reelection, and this should help her immensely. That part of western Wisconsin, along the Mississippi River, is effectively part of the Twin Cities media market, with many folks commuting into the metropolitan area. Harris/Walz may also do us a lot of good in the now newly-less-gerrymandered state legislative districts. (Want to support a great, fresh Eau Claire area candidate? Learn about the candidacy of best-selling novelist Nick Butler in the 93rd Assembly district!) Oh, did I mention…. Bon Iver, the band from Eau Claire, will play at the Harris rally! But wait, there’s more! Western and southwestern Wisconsin—including much of the rugged Driftless Area—are in the 3rd Congressional District, one of the true swing districts in the country. Hence, it is critical to the Dems hoping to regain the U.S. House majority. It is a rarity in the U.S: a largely rural, purple district. But, boy, did it swing blue in the supreme court race last year. It is currently represented in Congress by the odious Derrick Van Orden. His opponent for the general election will be chosen in next week’s Wisconsin primary. The district is PRIMED to move back into the D column. Harris and Walz will really make a difference, bringing out younger, women, rural progressive, and Minnesota-adjacent voters! It is not unusual for presidential candidates to show up in La Crosse WI, because it sits along the Mississippi at basically the intersection of Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. PLEASE Harris/Walz campaign, add La Crosse to your calendar in the next two months! The investment will pay multiple dividends. When we fight, we win.
