Tim Walz (D) to be her running mate as she heads toward a November faceoff against Donald Trump, according to two sources familiar. I would have been happy with either Shapiro or Walz, kept going back and forth between them and felt really undecided. Shapiro was the safer bet for winning Pennsylvania, but Walz was the bolder bet for increasing progressive enthusiasm and turnout in all 50 states. Looks like Harris is placing her bet on further driving up her momentum with a 50-state strategy, with hopes for the potential landslide that might be needed to prevent a civil war. She is trusting us to keep up the momentum and turn it into votes, so let’s do it! Original diary I posted an hour before the announcement: It sounds like the final two finalists for Kamala’s VP are Walz and Shapiro. I like both of them and can see good reasons for Harris picking either of them. Nevertheless, I am still obsessed with who it will be, it’s like watching two of my favorite Olympic athletes or two of my favorite sports teams competing against each other. So I’ve been following the amateur journalists/stalkers/fans/neighbors posting videos of their every move on social media. Below are videos they posted of Walz and Shapiro at their homes yesterday evening. I don’t think the videos are any definitive answer about who was chosen (or even whether a choice had been communicated to them before the videos were taken). They are interesting to me, though, because they are a glimpse into what life is like for these two men in these final hours. Walz could be travelling with extra security due to knowing he was chosen, or he could be travelling with extra security because Republicans nuts are dangerous especially for someone on Kamala’s VP finalist list and he needs security just for his regular activities to protect him. Shapiro could be shooting hoops with his son because he has been selected and wants to take his mind off the whole stressful process and take advantage of what is probably the last time in many months that he will be able to spend quality time with his son, or because he hasn’t been selected and shooting hoops with his son is a good way to take his mind off his disappointment and decompress from the stress of the selection process. We’ll find out today, but in any case I enjoy seeing these slices of these two guys’ lives, because I like learning more about them and think they will do great things regardless of who is selected. x I am live outside of Tim Walz’s residence.
