Scream Scorched Earth - Right Now [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-28 Kamala needs to run a scorched earth campaign. A number of media, including Kos have written about the two hottest days on earth, rather the two hottest days in earth’s history. Most have pointed out that this is on top of a series of hottest months and years. It is beyond the worst of scientific predictions. Literally, it is an existential crisis. This has all been the equivalent of page six news. Possibly, it has been seen. Definitely it has not gone viral. We need to make it go viral. People feel this change in their bones. Right now, people feel this. By Fall, people will have forgotten it unless it is repeated endlessly during the heat of the Summer. Face it. At some point the weather will cool. We might even see snow again. But now, we can make the point so clearly it will stick with folks. Something is broken. Quite possibly the brake line for earth’s climate stability are shot. Trump has already committed to a, “Drill Baby. Drill.” policy. He promised that in exchange for a billion dollars, he would open the faucets for fossil fuel production. Literally, he has a scorched earth policy. Call that what it is, a deal between devils. It is not as if Ms. Harris does not already have some slight advantage over the Trump campaign. But, that may not be enough. A slight lead in American opinion likely means a Republican president gets elected, and likely one or both houses of Congress as well. That is definitely not good enough. Yes, the field is tilted. The tilt is serious enough to threaten the end of American democracy. Frankly, we have to use whatever tools or weapons we have at our disposal, and we have to use them to best advantage. Democrats are already in a good position on policy. What we are not doing so well is communicating in a manner that breaks through the media overload. Sadly, Trump is. We have to learn his game in order to win. We need to use every hot day, every forest fire, every tropical storm, and every crop failure as a media event. The crisis at the Southern border, (which Trump has helped continue) is largely driven by climate change. The continuing spread of new epidemics and pandemics is largely driven by climate change. Heck, even inflation is largely driven by climate change. We already have “Trump’s Supreme Court,” as a meme. We have Trump’s promise of the, “The last vote.” Let’s add, ”Trump’s Climate Crisis” to that mix. We won’t get press for our plans to combat all of these. We just need the plans in place to do so. We need a President and a Congress ready to put these plans in place, and quickly We will get press by having an exciting campaign. We need that press. We must create it ourselves. The time to do so is now.
