Turn The Tables: Challenge Trump's 'Bullet' For Democracy [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-27 Presumed presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, has an opportunity to own Trump on his “I took a bullet for Democracy” narrative he’s actively pushing to his supporters. Kamala could say, “He took something...in his ear for democracy, I’ll give him that.” but until he shows us something more than a flesh colored bandage, why should we believe him? It’s been two weeks. How long can this charade continue, that he can claim a narrative there’s no evidence for? There’s plenty of evidence available, thanks to Trump’s own fist-pumping while surrounded by Secret Service agents. The internet abounds with images of Trump’s bloodied hand, face, and ear. But nothing matches forensically with what we know about a high velocity projectile grazing of human tissue. And sadly, we know a lot about the forensics of all manner of battlefield injuries, as America’s finest engaged with our adversaries around the globe, over the decades since the Vietnam war. He most likely took shards of glass, or plastic, or shrapnel from those high velocity impacts, that were within the trajectory between the shooter, and a path to his head. If there’s any ‘divine intervention’ it’s that we didn’t see a presidential candidate’s head actually explode in front of the world’s television cameras, on that fateful day in July. Yet, since then, he’s been shamelessly milking this “I took a bullet...” narrative ever since. If he didn’t keep bringing it up, it wouldn’t worth challenging. Of course, we should all be thankful we didn’t witness the first live streaming of an American assassination. But allowing him to claim this emotional narrative without challenge is bordering on dereliction, by Democrats. It may piss off and mobilize his hardcore base, but they’ve always been a minority, and it feeds into the broader trust issues that have plagued Trump’s efforts to broaden his appeal among Independents. Those are far more numerous, and in the right places, than the few lazy MAGAs left, that wouldn’t have bothered voting in November, but feel motivated to do so now. Because Democrats dared question the narrative of a guy who a jury convicted of tax fraud in a scheme to prevent bad news from becoming public in 2016. Or whose crowd sizes are always bigger, his buildings always taller and more spacious, his wealth always greater, than what the empirical evidence shows. Because, we’re not challenging that he took something to his ear, just not that it was a high velocity round fired from an AR-15. There were objects in the path of that bullet and Trump’s head. The truth matters, when you keep abusing the people’s trust.
