IAN: July 28, 2024 - The next few months should be fun [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-27 My favorite Molly Ivins quote: “Raise hell and have fun doing it!” It does look like that’s what a lot of us will be doing in the run-up to the general election. Who else has joined Cat Ladies for Kamala? As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! ************************* LEGO has a kit for a functional retro radio. Swimsuit color has an effect on safety in the water. A scrap of papyrus in a German museum’s archives turned out to be a 1600 year old rendering of part of the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. The rotation of Earth’s inner core is slowing down. The story behind Rainforest Cafe. Solve a murder every day. The Sakya Monastery in Tibet is digitizing its library. Ethiopia’s calendar. This is from last month. We had the earliest summer solstice in more than 200 years. ************************* This has been a fairly lazy week for me. I did get the grandkids over and they helped with the trash and recycling and dealing with my kitchen. I do still have to mop the floor and clean the cupboard doors and drawer fronts and sink; but it does look quite a bit better than it did last Monday. My grandson says the video camp is done; but he didn’t tell me anything about what project he was involved in producing. A couple of authors I read released books last week. I had pre-ordered, yes. I broke down and bought some that I had already read and enjoyed from a couple of other authors, and Ilona Andrews’ next is out next Tuesday — I pre-ordered that as soon as they said it was possible. I am one of the (vanishing) small contingent of the Book Devouring Horde that doesn’t consider “wait” and “patience” to be swear words, but it’s only a couple of days now and I am hopping up and down excited. Dignity? What’s that? I don’t need dignity — my sense of occasion is in fine working order. At some point in the next few days I will manage to get a checklist for my exercises organized. I have been doing them, but I really need to do better — I don’t like pain, it hurts. ************************* Love you guys!
