Some Basic Truth Would Help [1]

On Tuesday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said the Republicans have “weird” ideas. In July of 2021, GOP Vice President candidate JD Vance advocated that we give a vote to children with their parents, casting it as proxies. This is from the same guy who also said childless, cat-owning women should give up their right to vote, or at least their votes should not count as much. The last time an idea like that was floated was based on the theory that landowners should only be allowed to vote (white ones and not female). The attacks on the current Vice President and now presumptive nominee for the Democratic ticket as President of the United States will escalate, and, with it, the lies. What is this thing with Republicans and animals? If they are not shooting puppies in the face, they are disparaging cats.

Aside from Republicans calling Ms. Harris a “DEI hire” or disgustingly, author Alec Lace on July 5 (before Biden withdrew) suggested that she engaged in oral sex to achieve her success, saying, “Kamala Harris -- she's the original “hawk tuah” girl. That's the way she got where she is, and the party is going downhill if it's in her hands.” The American people should not be surprised by the piggish behavior of a party that sees their candidate's [Donald Trump] sexual molestation and groping of women as a virtue.

In what seems to be sputtering and spinning, and Donald Trump’s attempts to label VP Harris, the GOP seems to be settling on her work at the border, labeling her the “border czar.” Interjecting a little truth here, Republicans, Kamala Harris was never, ever, ever, ever appointed Border Czar. That was a label given to her by GOP opponents. President Joe Biden tasked her to investigate what makes the Northern Triangle (Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala) places that have a plethora of refugees who want to come to America. She reported on the underlying causes and:

The strategy relied on allocating billions for economic programs and stimulating private-sector investment in the region in hopes that these programs would ultimately lead fewer migrants to make the dangerous journey north.

So far, the strategy against Ms. Harris has been (1) insults and (2) a verifiably proven lie. Calling her a DEI hire and believing that it is somehow something she has never heard is also an indication of how out of touch Republicans are with Black America and women. She has been elected to every office she has held (including the Vice Presidency). As a black man and like millions of other black men and women in this society, I say—come with something new.

In my circumstance, I was named the manager of a small chain of custom cabinetmaking and woodworking outlets in the Washington, DC, area at age 30. I was assigned to an upscale area of town (mostly white). Exasperated, a woman came in to complain about a built-in wall unit that she said was not a “snug fit.” I asked if I could help, and she demanded to speak to the manager. I identified myself as the manager, and she said, NO! The real manager! Assuring her I was the real manager, she responded, more frustrated, “Now, what do I do with you?” How about you talk to me, I said. I was able to make the corrections to her built-in bookcases. She later returned and apologized, even writing a letter to the owner for hiring me.

I wonder if she owned a cat.
