Simple, yet so many don't get it. [1]

I’m from Michigan. I respect Gov. Whitmer to nearly the point of being a fanboy. I even saw her last weekend while she was at the book expo. I didn’t speak with her then — you know, books — but gone to a bunch of town halls and meet-and-greets during her tenure.

The reason I’m a ride-or-die with her is that she gets it. Much as Donnie Two-Scoops would love to grasp all the power of a unitary President in his tiny, Cheeto-colored hands, you can only advance as much of your agenda as Congress will support. Whitmer has been — slowly, but surely — “Republican-proofing” our laws and state constitution.

It always frustrates me when people say things like, “Biden should just end the filibuster”, without realizing there are rules in place that require the consent of others. I’m always asking “what do the rightmost Democratic Senators say about that?” or “What’s the margin in the House, again?”

And, if you just want it done, damn the process, you don’t want change, you want anarchy.

If, on the other hand, if you want real change, do the hard work of getting the people elected who will get the bill you want to the President’s desk. It isn’t easy. It isn’t sexy, but it is the type of fighting most likely to win.
