The best news of the week was that a moment of clarity came upon the Democratic Party. Joe Biden, although much beloved, and determined to press on with his campaign, stepped away, and put country over party. The whipped cream, nuts and cherry on this hot fudge sundae of a news cycle item is VP Kamala Harris. First, start with the energy level. How do you describe a person with her vitality? One word — awesome. This is exactly the kind of supercharging that this race requires. He’s a bloviating blowhard and an incessant babbler. He simply cannot shut the hell up. His energy level is synthetic, managed through camera angles, and who knows for sure what goes in besides diet Coke. She’s an experienced prosecutor. He’s a felon. She’s sane. He is not. She’s a vibrant not-quite-sixty-something. He’s 78, and medically speaking, there are significant indications of cognitive decline. He is only three years younger than Joe Biden and will not get any younger, no matter how much makeup and wardrobe assistance is sent his way. We’ve seen him deteriorate. Believe your eyes and some of what you’ve heard. He’s a badly broken vessel. Her family structure is very typical. His is skewed and tortuous, so full of labyrinths and things that suddenly pop out at you from a Chamber of Horrors. Her four years of seasoning as our vice-president is like confetti sprinkles adding to the magnificence of this delight. She didn’t need it, but our nation wasn’t ready for Kamala as POTUS in 2020. His four years as POTUS gave us a contaminated court system, COVID-19 deaths, a government shutdown, “loyalty” tests, January 6th, visions of what it is like to live in a third-world nation under a dictator. We’re ready for her now. We’re very much in need of her employment. I have only one request of anyone who reads this. If you feel as I do that we’ve experienced a sea change, a stroke of luck, or a brilliantly played tactical advantage, get behind this woman 100%. There should be no hemming and hawing, no “ifs-ands-or-buts.” We also must put our money where our mouth is. No thoughts and prayers. All Democratic candidates need our help. You need to send money. Campaigns do not run themselves. This one is worth spending your last dollar on. Is she absolutely the very best person for the job at hand? No. No president ever is. Each one has risen to the challenges placed before them. Some have done it magnificently. Others were mediocre at best. We are all imperfect. The best presidents have embraced their ordinariness and given us the best of themselves, not insisted that we place them on a throne and crown them with laurels. She will return us to that longstanding tradition of humility in the seat of power. Only one former POTUS and candidate carries in his resume a continued long succession of failures, in policy, judgement and principle. You need some sort of internal compass to do the job. He lacks one. His loyalties do not reside in this nation. He surrounds himself with thugs instead of principled people. He offered that he could do the job “very easily.” Balderdash. Poppycock. No president has ever had an easy time with the job. It is hard and each has created his own legacy. Some have not done very well. His first and only term ended in absolute chaos. Notwithstanding the Project that Heritage Foundation is pushing, which represents a return to halcyon days of oppression, not freedom, secrecy, not openness, wanton stripping of natural resources and unlimited gains for those who already have plenty and want it all, he throws barbs, insults, derision, falsehood, nonsense, slanderous statements and hides under the cloak of the First Amendment. He is cruel and highly unusual. She is kind, patient, tough but fair. He is a walking, talking nonsensical exudation of the absolute worst self our times have known, all poured into a Marvel Comics version of a supervillain. She is elegance moving through space and time. He has created minions. Yes. Please consider them in the same way you would the characters in the Universal Films Series of animated motion pictures. They are positioned in government at all levels. They are in the court system at all levels. They are creatures who are intent on surrendering their minds and hearts to a long-ago lost cause. She has spent four years working to clean up the sewage his administration infused into the Senate and the House. He is clearly unfit for office. She is our “best fit”. Our very first job is to not only consider her “application” for the job of president of these United States, but to place her in the office by acclamation. There should be no hesitation, no waffling no second-guessing. Our very next job, which we will do at the same time, is to support her up and down the ballot in November. Whatever you do, you must “Vote Blue.” This is very simply what we must do. The alternative? It isn’t even a choice.
