The Happy Warrior, and dumping Vance [1]

A couple of unrelated musings, granted, but here’s where my mind is right now.

The Happy Warrior

Trump is attempting to turn Harris’ joie de vivre into some kind of weakness. He is scared of this, because he knows that Obama’s message of Hope was a powerful thing. Reagan had his Morning in America, after the difficulties of the 1970’s. The American electorate responds to leadership that is optimistic.

Review Trump’s demeanor from the 2016 campaign. He was much more optimistic, and forward looking than today. His current campaign is nothing but fear.

I’ve linked here to William Wordsworth’s Character of the Happy Warrior. Our candidate is one such as this. I am heartened.

Dumping Vance

As mentioned yesterday, it is truly sad that Trump’s reason for choosing Vance is that he is such an excellent toady. I’d say that Vance is in “not quite Eagleton-bad” territory, but he brings jack/squat to the ticket.

I sincerely doubt that Trump can change dance partners at this point. Even if it wasn’t political suicide, I can’t even begin to imagine who a better VP might be. Nikki Haley would laugh in his face. RFK Jr isn’t going to accept a 2nd fiddle role. Rubio and DeSantis are impossible: they would cost Trump the Electoral Votes from Florida.

This is all an upshot of Trump sucking all the air out of the Republican Party. No one else has been allowed to prosper, and so the bench is terribly short. Hallelujah.
