Plus: the silent too long would like to laugh a little [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-24 At his latest rally on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Trump referred to Kamala as crazy and “Laffin' Kamala.” Keep it up Donald, please don't let us stand in your way. You will be the motivating force that gets people off the couch, and you will not believe how bigly women of all stripes will vote against you. While they are for Kamala, who now gives them hope, they may be against you more, consciously or not. Hate and umbrage are a great motivators. Most women are tired of this toxic state and toxic men in power (and some of the women along for the ride) who have taken away our freedoms, turning the clock counterclockwise. The sides are ever more stark now; everyone knows their job in a well-planned war. Keep making of yourself the bad guy, the enemy. You appear unserious about a serious job, even more so since Kamala is serious, just like we want her to be. The childish 12 year old name calling - I'm sorry that's all you got going for you. We will see you with fresh eyes — you are still a bully, but worse - bullying a woman. One who is our stand-in, who, it is fair to say, is a hero for these times, our hero. We will take it personally. When you deal in debasement as an act of entitlement (not to mention private part grabbing in talk and deed) we will be reminded of the word for that: abuser. We will rebuke you; we’ve just been waiting for the wind at our back. At any rate, thanks for everything! That was to be my posted rant and all I wanted to say. But with all there is to digest I have a little more: Trump first used the term “Sleepy Joe” in a tweet in April 2019, and in the past months and even before that, the shoe started to fit much better. Trump’s denigrations were reinforceable as they held truth, however contradicted by other truths. (Sleepy Joe, okay but so what, the man still got a lot done and he seems to be one of the most effective Presidents in history). The MAGA cult could come together, seeing for themselves Biden’s downslide. There is comfort and identity in people feeling better than in unison. For Trump his insults are his oxygen. For his base, it helps them bond. But recently Biden managed to get some younger man mojo back in his act of selflessness — we feel like he did this for ALL of us. The country is relishing in consensus and by how quickly the rancor of the past three weeks has disappeared. I think everyone is giddy with relief and hope, and things are in kind of a feedback loop between the two. Something great was pulled off. Having earned a lot of cred for this act, Trump would never anoint him with the nickname he has truly earned of late — “Badass Biden”. Given that he went from being 3 years younger than Biden to 19 years older than his opponent, Trump’s age projection machine just broke. He has nowhere to go but the mirror, especially with photos of him falling asleep at his trial and at the RNC. Without his age comparable adversary, at long last, one of Trump’s nicknames is exacting vengeance. Let the karma begin, Sleepy Donald! He’s lost about ¾ of his material, though there will always be other tiring insults to mine. He and his operatives very well might replenish the arsenal in ever more troubling ways, which we will see for the desperation it is. Deriding someone for being sleepy and old, with its implications of ineffectualness, is one thing…. His name calling for Kamala will ring as hollow and weak as it actually is. Laughter as a point of derision - I don’t think that will get Trump very far with anyone but the cult. The cognitive dissonance in calling out an accomplished individual whose vice is laughter, is, well, laughable. ;) Trump has poked fun at Kamala’s name, breaking down the 3 syllables in pointed pronunciation. The implication was she was not Suzie or Debbie; it was an “other” name (otherizing, of course, is another stock in trade). It also feels like he was singling out her foreignish/fancy name as one belonging to elites. For Republicans multi-ethnicity is elitist, and other things, by default. If he brings up DEI now, that’s also lot of dissonance, given that Harris is an exceedingly accomplished woman. (Other Republicans already have, I’m not sure about Trump.) If we are playing the DEI card, then Trump’s only credentials are he was born in the right place at the right time and the right sex. Men of white privilege need do very little to stay in place, or they can do things that would do in anybody else. Just hand them a microphone. While the media has tuned a lot out from Trump, who has succeeded in an overwhelm out of the autocrat’s playbook, his thinly coded racial retorts will draw notice. And hopefully, at the next rally, a MAGA member or two, finding little about Kamala to feel good about deriding, will think it’s all gone too far. Back to laughter for a moment. Laughter is a fairly benign, universal behavioral response expressing joy. Some are even calling Kamala’s laughter “infectious” and say they love it. Karma will continue to find Trump in all sorts of ways. Better Kamala keeps laughing. Given the circumstances, a laugh or two or three seems wholly appropriate. She’s earned every one.
