How We Got Kamala [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-23 I’d like to start by saying just how proud I am of the Democratic grassroots and the way we’ve acted as a group over the past 3 days. No, make that the last month. As soon as it became apparent Joe Biden wasn’t going to get away with excusing a bad debate, as soon as the MSM started rumbling about how “the donors” were beginning to agitate for a change of candidate, some people at the grassroots level recognized which way the wind blows and started making sure that ordinary Democrats wouldn’t be sold down the river. I’m still very sad to see the Biden-Harris campaign end this way, but the people I’m referring to realized something I didn’t. They realized the billionaires were preparing to betray us all for a Corporate Democrat or reactionary centrist of their choosing. These activists immediately started a mini-movement to insist that if the candidate can’t be Biden, it must be Harris. By the clock ran out on Joe’s campaign, that momentum had grown to become the flood of support we’ve seen since Sunday. The small donations, the explosion of support, the outcry for a Harris candidacy was impossible to ignore. President Biden immediately spotted the energy in the party and endorsed his VP, hopefully salvaging the momentum and legacy of his term in the process. If you doubt that, get a load of this big donor: In an overwhelming show of support, Vice President Kamala Harris' barely-days-old presidential campaign has been hauling in the cash. Since President Joe Biden abruptly dropped out of the race Sunday afternoon and endorsed his second-in-command instead, her campaign brought in more than $100 million by Monday evening, CBS News reported. None of that came from Florida attorney and Biden campaign megadonor John Morgan, though. He has turned off the tap. "Joe Biden’s endorsement of Kamala is his f---- you to all who pushed him out," he posted on X, formerly Twitter, Sunday afternoon. "Be careful what you wish for." Instead, he suggested that any combination of Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Kentucky governor Andy Beshear, Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer, Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro and/or former First Lady Michelle Obama would win, and said he was no longer fundraising for the campaign. John Morgan says Kamala Harris will lose In an interview with ABC News Sunday night, Morgan said that Harris was too far left and would lose the election. And now WE have the momentum. WE have the influence. WE have a candidate who may not be perfect in every way, but for damn sure she’s going to be better than Joe Manchin. We EARNED this, we BUILT this energy, and if we support this campaign all the way to November WE will prevail. Not the billionaires. Not the reactionary centrists who sympathize with the right but punch left. Not the Corporate Democrats who will sell everything Liberals hold dear down the river to preserve Republican tax breaks. Not the Blue Dogs who are only in their seats because they’re in red states and their way to power was blocked by more senior, more powerful Republicans. We have our candidate. Let’s make this thing happen.
