During the best man’s toast at friend’s wedding, we were encouraged to memorize a saying that has served me well in my marriage ever since:

You were right.

I was wrong.

I’m sorry.

I’ll try to do better.

I love you.

I realized today this has some applicability to my last 48 hours around here. If you, dear reader, were caught the line of my verbal fire, please accept my apology for being a flaming prick in my spirited defense of the President. I will try to do better.

Aside from the leap into the unknown, the fear that was driving my rather impressive series of unhinged rants was that we would fail to coalesce around the Vice President, the only plausible candidate with a shred of legitimacy. My worst nightmare was this would lead to four weeks of doubt and recriminations as the circular firing squad took aim, fatally wounding whatever candidate came out of the process. And OMG were there some goofy process proposals.

Now that it is clear the Vice President all but has the nomination sewn up, the swiftness of the movement to her camp has shocked and delighted me today. Somehow the Democrats pulled off eliminating a huge liability and unified the party around the literal face of the future. In like 24 hours. Maybe we aren’t as bad at this as I thought.

I always say I hope to be wrong when my doominess and gloominess prevail, and boy am I thrilled to be proven oh-so-wrong this time. Yesterday I said I was out. That was incorrect. I am in. Very, very in for MVP, soon to be Madam President (shivers every time I think it). Let’s go.

The crow I am eating today, lightly braised in lemon butter sauce, is absolutely delicious.
