Making The Best Of It [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-21 I didn't want this, and I will never forgive the DNC donor class for their palace coup with the obvious goal of ending the most liberal administration in decades. Joe is a centrist by inclination and history, but he recognizes the energy within the Democratic Party is on the left. He moved that direction in response, and I admire him for that. I'm encouraged by the way the party has rapidly circled the wagons around Kamala Harris. ActBlue collected $27.5M in donations within 5hrs after the announcement, which will make it much harder for the coup participants to get their way. It seems to me, that Kamala Harris has some advantages, as long as the party can rapidly move to have her back. Trump is now the geezer in the race, and Democrats can now strongly attack every gaffe, awkward pause, and derailed train of thought he makes. The Trump campaign worked really hard to make the case that people who exhibit such behavior aren't fit to be President and are obvious evidence of the limitations of age. Sucks to have the poster child for such behavior at the top of their ticket. Harris is also an ideal candidate to prosecute the evils of the Dobbs decision and the other current and future plotting of the forced birthers. Biden had a delicate tightrope to walk on that due to the fact that he's a devout Catholic. That's not a criticism of his faith, just a reality since his church is among the most hardcore leaders of that movement. Now the Veepstakes begins. There are a lot more good options for such a position than Democrats had 12, 8, or even 4 years ago. I’m open to a lot of options, but would like to highlight North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. He’s term limited out, so he won’t be opening up a seat anywhere. He’s quite popular in his home state. As such, he could help bring North Carolina into play. That’s already just about the only state the Biden campaign thought they might be able to bring into the campaign other than the commonly cited battleground states.
