If you haven’t watched Vice President Harris grill some Committee witnesses back when she was in the Senate, I encourage you to do so. She is indeed a bad ass.

No doubt she faces some immense challenges, given how sexist and racist significant chunks of this country are, if she indeed does become our nominee.

But it will be immensely helpful having a woman at the top of the ticket with abortion being front and center of the campaign this year — the contrast. The contrast with Roe-overturning Trump and “national abortion Ban-ce could not be starker.

In addition to putting her excellent prosecutorial skills to use — her team has already started with strong, aggressive messaging — I think she and her team will, be able to take it to the seditionist ticket in a way that I think Biden, unfortunately, wouldn’t have been able to do at this point. And it obviously flips the age argument on its head. I also think sooner or later, as the campaign gets truly ugly, Trump will very publicly and repeatedly let his racist and sexist freak flag fly, even more than it already does and has been. There is no way he will be able to help himself. And that, I remain convinced, will not play well with large swaths of the public.

I do think that the way President Biden has been treated over the last few weeks is a damning commentary on just how fucked up / dysfunctional our political system — and our media is. I say this as a longtime Biden fan — he was one of my two favorites in the 2008 presidential primary season, and I was thrilled when Obama picked him to be his running mate.) And also as someone who became increasingly convinced over the last few weeks was that he did indeed need to step aside in order to provide us with the best chance of winning for a number of reasons. Simultaneously, though, it’s hard to get past the sheer feeding frenzy of the media and the disproportionate coverage, given how fucked up, incompetent, treasonous, and corrupt Trump is.

Even while allowing for what I think were very legitimate concerns about Biden’s evident slippage over the last year, and his health next year and two or three years after that, It is nauseating that our system and our media have spent the better part of the last month trashing, and ultimately driving out, a fundamentally good, kind, decent at his core, human being while helping to enable a truly shitty, corrupt, treasonous, incompetent, national, embarrassment and overall scumbag. I will always be indebted to President Joe Biden for his decades of public service, for having spared us from Trump in 2020 by kicking his ass, for all of his Administration’s accomplishments and in the Senate, and again, for his basic decency, empathy and humanity.

But a lengthier discussion of those topics is material for another day, another post. The primary task is in front of us now, clear as day.

Game on. Let’s do this.
