Sorry - Polls did NOT underestimate Biden in 2020 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-06 If Joe Biden wants to win over skeptical voters, he should stick to the facts. The polls did not underestimate Biden in 2020. Reasonable people can disagree about Biden’s 2024 prospects but please stop using this lie as an argument for why he is not going to lose to Trump. I remember them telling me the same thing in 2020, 'I can't win, the polls show I can't win.' (Source: Biden’s ABC News interview) The polls did not underestimate Biden in the 2020 Primary During the 2020 primary, the polls showed Biden losing to Sanders in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada and he lost all three of those races to Sanders. The polls showed him winning big in South Carolina and he won that race as the polls predicted. After South Carolina, the national polls showed Biden leading Sanders in the primary race and Biden went on to secure the nomination with a string of victories on Super Tuesday. The polls did not underestimate Biden in the 2020 General Election During the 2020 election, the polls actually underestimated Trump’s strength in all of the seven battleground states and they even picked the wrong winner in one of those states (North Carolina). The following table shows the 538 polling average for each state compared to the actual result along with the size of Trump’s over-performance (values contain links to the sources for this table).
