President Biden’s Next Speech, We Hope [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-28 Dear friends, The American people have made tremendous progressive during the last three plus years. We recovered from the COVID pandemic. Jobs and the economy rebounded. We repaired valued global alliances. We reestablished our commitment to addressing climate change. We made progress towards becoming a healthier and more just society. But there is still much to be done. We must restore a women’s right to reproductive freedom, secure Medicare, Social Security, health care, and major social service programs, end the burden of student debt, provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented young people, address historic inequality, ramp up climate action, find a solution to the global migrant crisis that is impacting on our Southern border, and reaffirm our motto “e pluribus unum.” Our most pressing problem is the threat to our democratic beliefs and form of government. The presumptive Republican candidate for President never accepted the results of the 2020 Presidential election despite numerous court decisions that there was no evidence of fraud. Now he refuses to commit to honoring the results of the November 2024 election. He insists that the insurrectionists who invaded the United States Congress on January 6, 2021 were patriots and promises to pardon them for their criminal behavior. He is ignorant of the guiding principles imbedded in the Constitution that governs our country and lies about his past actions and current plans. I fear for the future of this country if he is elected, but I remain hopeful because of my confidence in the American people. Being President of the United States of America is a difficult and all-consuming job as is being a parent and grandparent. Because of the needs of my family and my obligation to the American people as their President, I have not had the ability to concentrate on a reelection campaign. Because of this I have decided, after consultation with family, friends, and colleagues, to suspend my candidacy for President. I free delegates to the August Democratic Party national convention from any legal requirement to cast their ballot for me. The Democratic Party has very strong alternative Presidential candidates who are now serving as Governors, in Congress, as Cabinet members, in other fields, and as Vice-President to choose from. I know the Democratic Party will nominate outstanding individuals who will be elected in November and lead the country into the future. I will continue as your President for the rest of my term. Thank you for letting me serve this country for the past five decades. God Bless America.
