What a difference a day makes [1]

Date: 2024-05-28  

…And I ought to know!

The day (date): May 28, 1984. The location: Fresno, California.

The predicted high temp.: 98. Actual high temp.: 107.

How could the forecasted high temperature have been that far off?! Nine degrees!

I was in utter disbelief!

It’s the only time I can remember the forecast being that far off.

That it happened, the trouble is I cannot NOT remember May 28. It’s why I’m writing about it now.

Relief comes a day late

Though arriving later than expected, Fresno did get that big cooldown. It happened on the day following. As best I can recollect, the high temperature on May 29, 1984 in this central California metropolis was 97. Funny what we remember and what we don’t.

At any rate, was May 28, 1984’s a high-temperature record in the town now boasting a population of 500,000+ people strong?

Unlike weather forecasting, here’s what you CAN depend on. I’ll be tuned in this afternoon to the local broadcast tv news and weather report to find out.

Predicted Fresno high-temp. today, meanwhile: A “cool” 93.

A heads-up

For this Throwback Thursdays’ post, I’ll be harkening back to the day I re-enrolled in college coursework and reporting on my academic adventures which began May 30th, also that year. When it rains, it pours. What can I say?! I’ll clue you in. It’s what precipitated my being — prompted my wanting to be — a writer.
