[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-05-27 Knesset to hold preliminary vote designating UNRWA a terror organization The Jerusalem Post The Knesset is set to hold a preliminary vote designating the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization, by which it will then sever all ties with the body that is the main relief service provider for 5.9 Palestinian refugees in the Middle East. “The purpose of this bill is to declare UNRWA as a terrorist organization for all intents and purposes as well as order the termination of the relations [and the cooperation] of the State of Israel with the agency, either directly or indirectly,” Israel Beytenu MK Yulia Malinovksy wrote in the introduction to the bill, which she authored. The legislative push comes as the International Court of Justice and the international community at large have taken Israel to task for not sufficiently ensuring the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza. Yet Israel has yet to provide evidence of Unrwa staff terrorist links, Colonna report says The Guardian Israel has yet to provide supporting evidence of its claims that employees of the UN relief agency Unrwa are members of terrorist organisations, an independent review led by the former French foreign minister Catherine Colonna has said. The Colonna report, which was commissioned by the UN in the wake of Israeli allegations, found that Unrwa had regularly supplied Israel with lists of its employees for vetting, and that “the Israeli government has not informed Unrwa of any concerns relating to any Unrwa staff based on these staff lists since 2011”. A retroactive justification for: The Deaths of UNRWA Staff The Destruction of UNRWA infrastructure. The defamation of UNRWA around the world. The rationale for future attacks on UNRWA personnel and infrastructure anywhere it is active. This is pure propaganda, nothing more, but the consequences for the 5.9 million Palestinians that UNRWA gives humanitarian support could be tragic.
