Just received my bi-monthly email from Hank Johnson. A start on holding The Supremes to ethics? [1]

As the title says, my representative in Congress is Hank Johnson. Ol’ Hank has come a long way since his “Guam is going to tip over” days. I email him regularly on issues, he has always responded promptly and politely and his votes have reflected my feelings more often than not.

Today I received my newsletter and he had the following (cut and pasted from email since there is no weblink).

COURT REFORM NOW TASK FORCE

I’m proud to announce that last week, I, along with several of my colleagues, launched the Court Reform Now Task Force on Capitol Hill.

Wealthy special interests have corrupted the supermajority on the Supreme Court, turning the Court’s operations unethical and its decisions deeply suspect. We now have the best Supreme Court that money can buy: a rigid ideological majority that adds to the power of the wealthy and privileged while subtracting rights from everyone else. The task force will be utilized as a platform to raise awareness, educate members, and staff, and stimulate debate around the need to reform the Supreme Court, so we can restore judicial independence, meaningful checks and balances and protection of the rights of all Americans.

My co-chairs include Reps. Adam Schiff (CA), Jamie Raskin (MD), Madeleine Dean (PA) and Jasmine Crockett (TX). One of our first action items was to send Justice Samuel Alito a letter demanding that he recuse himself in cases involving the Jan. 6 insurrection (like Trump v. US) after reporting showed he and his wife flew a U.S. flag upside down in support of the “Stop the Steal” movement that falsely claims the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump.
