Don't forget to leave a "tip" if you like an article [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-05-20 I’ve never really understood why, but Daily Kos makes a distinction between “recommend” and “tip.” That is, the “Recommend” button at the top of an article is not connected to the “tip jar” that leads the comments at the bottom of the article. If you want to do both, you have to click on both. That is because (if I understand correctly, which I might not) a “recommend” is giving praise to the content of the article, while a “tip” is giving praise to the author. It is only the “tip” (I think) that affects how much mojo the author accumulates, which shows up on the author’s profile page. So, if you want to praise the article AND give the author a pat on the back, click on BOTH buttons. NOTE: I am not fishing here. I don’t care whether you recommend this article or not. But I just finished reading an excellent article with over 400 recommends but only a hundred and some tips, and I am pretty confident that this is because a lot of readers think that clicking the Recommend button is all they need to do (or else they just plain forget). I see this all the time, and I think that authors who write especially good articles deserve to get that love in the tip jar, too.
