IAN: May 19, 2024 - and things drag on [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-05-18 I wish election campaigning could be restricted to just a couple of months. I have had it to my hairline with 45 and his minions. The rest of this is rather more cheerful, I think. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! ************************* A possible use for used coffee grounds. Experiments are promising. This is from April, I believe, but it is interesting — and something that is actually possible to do. Eat 30 different plants each week. The proposed Everglades to Gulf Conservation Area. I wonder how DeSantis is planning to foul this up. Ten fruits you should (according to Eating Well) eat every week. I don’t like either watermelon or avocado. And ten vegetables you should be eating every week, also according to Eating Well. The science of earthquakes. The potato. Eating a small (1” to 1 1/2” diameter) raw potato helps with heartburn for a lot of people, but I didn’t see that in the article — those I keep in the refrigerator since I don’t need one every day. Librarians who changed the world. A Sumerian beer recipe has been resurrected in the UK. ************************* I stayed home from last Sunday’s trip to see my family. I did tell my daughter I would start going to all the get-togethers when I have another car of my own. Monday was actually kind of busy. My daughter and I went to lunch at a Thai place she had been to. The next time we do that, we’ll go to one I know. We both do love Thai food. I ended up paying because she was having something of a meltdown over the last-minute information that her first needed a suit to match the girlfriend’s dress for the prom that was happening on Friday. I have reason to believe the kid survived the shopping trip that they were pulled out of school for; I got butt-dialed about a dozen times before my daughter noticed what was happening (I do recognize my firstborn’s voice when it’s going off in the background), and got responses from both. On Tuesday, I got a couple of deliveries mid-morning that weren’t actually supposed to arrive for another couple of days. Oh, I don’t think I’ve mentioned this, but my blood pressure is fairly reliably normal since I got the arthritis diagnosis (I’ve said many times that stress does a number on it — this qualifies as proof), and since I started physical therapy, my pulse rate has gone down an average of ten points. I’ve made some progress on getting my place back together. I need to do another couple loads of dishes (I have a small countertop dishwasher) and put the remaining groceries away before I can rearrange the stuff on my counters in the kitchen. The bedroom is pretty much together, but I have a new answering machine that I have to get put in, and my dirty clothes should go behind the screen where they belong till I can do laundry. I did get the answering machine installed. I got down on the floor to do it and back up again, too — without my leg hurting! Because of where and how I buy books, I get lots of notices of sales and new book releases from assorted directions. Because of how my personal tastes run, a fair number of them include chick-lit romances. Can anybody tell me the appeal of the sibling’s-best-friend-off-limits trope? I just can’t see it. ************************* Love you guys!
