Street Prophets Friday: Starstruck [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-05-17 Greetings and welcome to another of my little hairballs. It's just a fuzzy little ball of fluff, a little something to open another community open thread. Of course, this week I've got the feeling that the photos are extraordinary. Last Friday I visited the Prague Zoo with Mrs the Werelynx, her brother and his twin, 9 year-old sons, and my Fabulous Mother-In-Law. I arrived separately and met them at the Ring-tailed Lemurs. But first, just outside the main entrance, I donated three old cell phones. The Prague Zoo collects cell phones for recycling. By recycling cell phones we reduce the demand for certain rare metals that are mined in Africa— in areas also occupied by gorillas. By recycling, we’re protecting areas of gorilla habitat. We seemed to have a lucky day because the ring-tailed lemurs were being fed. There was a small crowd gathered to watch. For a moment, I caught the eye of one of the people watching the lemurs. I didn’t stare long, I averted my eyes, slightly embarrassed. She looked away at about the same time and I felt I could allow myself one quick photo. The next day, she was back in the zoo. I was a bit disappointed that all the Czechs in my life (with the exception of #2 Son— a student of zoology) had no idea who she was. But I knew. I’ve known about her my whole life. I didn't know she was going to be in the zoo that day. #2 Son knew, I jokingly called him a bastard for not informing me. I didn't exactly have a heart attack, I was just— stunned. I hung about a bit and shared a couple of quips with some of the people accompanying her, but tried not to be intrusive. A couple of people from the zoo shook her hand and thanked her for her visit. I resisted the temptation to join in. I did however claim the honor of holding the door to the lemur enclosure open for them as they all left. I've had encounters with politicians, famous musicians, artists, comedians and movie stars. This encounter struck me as different. Without a word, just that gentle smile and those patient, observant eyes. I'm trying hard to think of another person on this planet who could stun me like that. She'd been invited to the zoo for a couple of things, but mostly it was to have the honor of naming the newest of the baby gorillas born in the zoo this year. I didn't manage to catch a glimpse of the newest arrival. I did see little Gaia’s cousin though. I think this is Duni with little Mobi Parting shot Thanks for stopping by.
