IAN: May 17, 2024 Green Growing Things [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-05-16 IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! Happy Friday! I have a doctor’s appointment this morning, and they are going to be working on the net in our neighborhood as well, so if I don’t get online, please be kind to each other. Above is the dwarf banana tree we bought at Lowes while Bit was on vacation. It will probably be a year or two until we get tiny bananas. It’s supposed to grow to 3-4 feet, right now it’s about one foot tall. Monday Youffraita Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac Wednesday Pam from Calif Thursday art ah zen Friday FloridaSNMOM Saturday FloridaSND I’m not doing so great. Pain levels are really up there, I’ve been using my inhaler more and doing more nebulizer treatments. I’m hoping Bit will have an extra day off next week so I can schedule a doctor’s appointment and she can go with me. I miss being able to do things, and I really don’t like being in a LOT of pain all day and all night or having more seizures (4 in the past week, which is more than I usually have in a month). Pomegranate tree we got at the same time as the banana. I haven’t been able to cook, the kids won’t let me do the dishes because my arms are *really* twitchy and they’re afraid they are going to throw things, I’m back to needing supervision to shower, and I just feel like I’ve backslid by about two years so far as functionality went. And I’m constantly tired and in pain. This tree will grow to be 4-5 feet tall. So far it and the banana are doing really well. Yes, I know this needs to be weeded. Bit is going to do that hopefully on Sunday. I don’t remember what type of plant this is. But it’s pretty and adds color. This lives in the garden area in front of the porch. I know it’s supposed to grow to about 3 or 4 feet tall, and have small flowers on a long stem. Our yard is very green, and we wanted something that would bring some color in over the long term. This is a fish mint plant. It’s not really a mint, but it does smell like fish when you break a leaf. According to research, every part of this plant is edible. The ducks seem to like it. It grows all over our yard. This grows to about 3 feet if you let it go, we are cutting back some areas, since it’s part of Sophie’s yard and she disappears in it, but letting it grow along the fence. This lily was a surprise. We didn’t know we had this plant until it flowered a couple of weeks ago. It’s about 5 feet tall, and lives in the swampy part of the yard. It’s a yellow Cannes Lily, we think. Fortunately, it is not anywhere near the house or the cats. And we don’t really touch it. Really tall Lily with big broad leaves, thankfully it’s away from the house and the cats. These tiny little purple flowers are some sort of ground cover, this is an extreme close up. The brown stems around it are pine needles. These grow on the drier side of the yard, from the road down to the pine trees. un-named tiny purple flowers. We also have a strawberry plant, but I don’t have any pictures of that one currently. It’s on the other side of the porch in the other garden area, where the HUGE Elephant ear used to be, if you remember that. When the trees outgrow their pots they’ll be planted in the yard. We haven’t decided where yet.
