This is an open thread where we can share our thoughts and comments about the day. Let’s start by wandering through a medicinal garden. The Oregon Garden in Silverton is an 80-acre botanical garden which features more than 20 specialty gardens. The Medicinal Garden displays many different varieties of medicinal plant species. Each plant has, or was believed to have, medicinal properties when properly prepared. Shown above is Lemon Thyme (Thymus citriodorus). Essential oils derived from the leaves of this plant are used as antiseptic deodorant and disinfectant. Shown above is Hellebore (Helleborus orientalisi). Formerly used to treat dropsy and has proved of value in treatment of nervous disorders, hysteria, and as a purgative. It has limited medicinal value due to its high toxicity levels at low quantities. Shown above is Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium). It is used in treating digestive ailments, nausea, indigestion, parasitic intestinal worms, and flatulence. Shown above is Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia uvaria). The juice is used in cosmetics.
