[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-05-01 I am always telling you I have no flowers, just succulents. While they do have their own version of flowers, this year I have noticed that I actually do have quite a few flowering plants. So here they are. That first one (above) is a bougainvillea on my front porch. It is beautiful right now but has very few leaves. We planted it when we first moved in in 1989. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! This is the top pond, no fish, with new plants. I hope they all grow well. There are mini papyrus, penny wort and water hyacinth. I hope the hyacinths bloom again this year. They lasted over the winter, which is not usual. top pond Here is the new water iris. There will be a better picture further on. Here we have a water lily left from last year, an unknown plant that came with the penny wort, a small water hawthorn from the bottom pond and lots of anacharis to generate oxygen. Lantana is the plant at the intersections of the ponds and it blooms with tons of purple flowers but not right now. You can see Mr Whiskers in the back ground, with a fishing pole. I bought him at an estate sale years ago. middle pond Here we have horse tails, water hawthorn that is wildly invasive, some water hyacinth, and two spider plants in pool noodles cuttings. bottom pond Here is the front yard. This bougainvillea has to be kept in check but it is lovely. pink bougainvillea More front yard. Bill found that the left side of this wisteria was dead, the roots all eaten by something. Now all the greenery comes from the right side but it looks good anyway. I offered to plant another on the left but Bill said to leave it this way. wisteria t is almost May so this plant is blooming in memory of Rubi, dog of my heart. It has bloomed every year in May since Rubi died in 2014. My Saturday BFF gave it to me then. rubi’s carnation Lil Zen gave me this last year and it is doing nicely although the hummers don’t eat it. I may need to move it but it does so well here by my dining room window. hummingbird feast This is one of three amaryllis bulbs I have that cultivated over the years. I am always amazed when any of them bloom. I have another bud on one in the other side of the garden. amaryllis I bought one of these some years ago but thought it was “Olivia” due to the way it was printed on the can. Later I found out it is “clivia” but I kept the name from the first one. clivia Here is a better picture of the blooming water iris. I love the deep rich color. water iris All the new plants came from the Van Ness Water Garden in Upland, Ca. The owner suggested them last year and this year. They all survived last year so I have high hopes for these too. Thanks for looking and have a good day.
